Every year, I take thousands of photos. Of other people’s families. Of my own. Of the tiny, ordinary moments that don’t feel like much at the time—but later? They feel like everything.

Our first attempt with the Polinski family was a rainy one, the kind of day where the skies clearly say, not today. But instead of forcing it, we rescheduled. And I’m so glad we did. Not only did the weather show up for us the second time around, but we landed on a date when the entire family was in town, which made this session even more meaningful.

This year, I didn’t get my camera out as much as I wanted to. And for a while, that bothered me. But when I actually slowed down and looked back—really looked back—I realized something important: just because I didn’t document every moment doesn’t mean the moments weren’t there.
