As an affiliate photographer with the Tilly Project, I have the profound honor of connecting with families who need end-of-life photography for their beloved pets. These sessions are as heartwarming as they are bittersweet—an opportunity to capture the deep love and unique bond between a pet and their family before saying goodbye.
One such session was with Dexter, a 14-year-old corgi mix, and his family at Landis Woods Park in Lititz, PA. As we began taking photos, a light rain started to fall, but we found refuge under the shelter of a tree and continued. Dexter, feeling surprisingly spry, decided to explore the park a little, soaking in his surroundings.
It’s always emotional to be part of these sessions, but what a blessing it is to meet these sweet souls, witness their joy, and celebrate the life they’ve shared with their families.
Dexter’s family shared some heartfelt details about him that highlight just how special he was:
Dexter was lovingly nicknamed “Old Man” even when he was young.
He was calm, snuggly, and a champion sleeper—truly the “goodest boy.”
The family rescued him when he was 4 years old.
Dexter loved soft squeaky toys, long walks, car rides, and snuggles.
He was their first dog and the constant in their lives, bringing joy and smiles through every chapter.
Gabe, the family’s son, grew up with Dexter as his best friend, and when his sister Eva was born, Dexter showed the same gentle, loving nature.
During our session, it was clear how much Dexter meant to his family. He wasn’t just a pet; he was a piece of their story, woven into every milestone and memory.
These moments, while fleeting, are so important. For Dexter’s family, these photos serve as a way to hold onto his spirit forever—a reminder of his calm, steady presence and the joy he brought to their lives.
To all pet families, I encourage you to celebrate your furry friends whenever you can. They are with us for such a short time, but the impact they leave is immeasurable.
Thank you, Dexter, for being a light in your family’s life. Rest easy, Old Man.
In Loving Memory of Dexter
