Golden Hour in Mt. Gretna: Celebrating the Neiswinter Family

Some evenings just feel like magic, and my time with the Neiswinter family in Mt. Gretna was one of them. Natalie reached out looking for fall photos that would mark two very special milestones—their children’s 1st and 3rd birthdays. She had already scouted the most beautiful field bursting with yellow flowers, kissed with sunshine, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect backdrop.

At first, the kids were a little shy (totally normal for little ones in front of the camera!), but with time—and a little sibling teamwork—they warmed right up. One of my favorite moments was the cake smash for their son. He carefully nibbled at the cake with such sweet gentleness, and then big sister swooped in to help, which brought out more joy all around. Those real, unposed moments of connection are the ones families treasure most.

Even though the day turned out warmer than we all expected, the golden light and the joy of the occasion made it a gorgeous evening together. We wrapped up with the kids laughing and exploring, and I drove home with a full heart. As a funny little twist, I even spotted a baby raccoon on the road—pausing to make sure it made it safely back into the grass. A tiny reminder of how precious and fleeting life’s little moments are, whether you’re raising kids or spotting wildlife on the drive home.

These are the evenings that remind me why family photography matters so much. It’s not just about pretty pictures in a field—it’s about freezing the sweetness of this season, shy smiles and cake-covered hands included, so you’ll have them to look back on long after the moment has passed.
