Some sessions feel like a big, joyful family reunion—and Rachel’s extended family photos were exactly that. On an unseasonably warm September day at the Lancaster History Museum, we gathered parents, grandparents, aunts, and two very sweet (and very busy) little boys to celebrate all the connections that make a family a family.
It was one of those afternoons where the sun had no chill. We laughed, we chased toddlers across the grass, and we did our very best to keep the sweat from dripping down our faces. (Real life, right?) But honestly? That warmth matched the energy of the day—full of movement, laughter, and a whole lot of love.
Extended family sessions hold such a special place in my heart. There’s something incredibly meaningful about photographing multiple generations together—the way grandparents light up when a grandchild runs toward them, the quiet pride in a parent’s smile, the chaos and joy that happens when everyone’s in one place. These are the relationships your kids will grow up remembering. These are the photos that become heirlooms.
We leaned into the chaos, followed the boys where they wanted to explore, and let the session unfold naturally. No stiff poses. No pressure. Just connection, laughter, and a shared commitment to capturing this season—warm weather, flushed cheeks, and all.
Because one day, the boys won’t be so little. And having photos with everyone in them? That’s a gift that only grows more valuable with time.
Thinking about an extended family session of your own? Whether it’s grandparents in town or a long-overdue get-together, I’d love to help you preserve these relationships while everyone’s here. Reach out here and let’s plan something meaningful—sweaty September days optional.
